Mobile phones are now a very important part of people’s lives. The versatile use of this phone has made people’s lives even easier. But recently, many people are facing network problems while using the phone. Even the customers of the capital Dhaka are highlighting network problems through social media. When trying to call someone or receive someone else’s phone, the connection is suddenly disconnected or the call cannot be made at all.
Social media and even neighborhood tea shop chats have recently taken up the issue of mobile network problems. One complaint of all is that the mobile operators have launched 3G, 4G and even 5G networks one after the other in the country. But they are not able to serve the customers properly.
Many are writing on social media mentioning the name of the company, Grameenphone is not able to provide proper service even in Dhaka. But is it really so? Many a times, Grameenphone has promised to improve their service quality. However, despite the company’s good will to improve the quality of service, the operator said that proper cooperation is not available from the concerned parties in building the necessary infrastructure.
In a letter recently sent to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), Grameenphone has informed about various plans to increase the quality of service. But the company is not getting proper support from the concerned parties to implement them. For example, the plan to improve the quality of the network mentions the construction of 889 towers across the country, of which more than 250 towers are to be built in the capital Dhaka.
Even though Grameenphone has promised in writing to the regulatory body to implement the plan to install new towers, they cannot install the towers themselves. Because, according to the law, the tower companies are supposed to fulfill this responsibility. But due to lack of support from the tower company as planned, customers are not getting better network services. As a result all the efforts of the company are failing and Grameenphone has to bear the responsibility of the failure.
Grameenphone has even announced plans to install 4,500 kilometers of fiber in the second half of this year to provide improved voice call and internet services to customers. Fiber has already been installed in their 4200 towers and it is planned to install fiber in 34 percent of total towers and 100 percent of towers in Dhaka during this period. But due to non-cooperation from fiber companies, the plan is not being implemented properly. As a result, customers are facing a very bad experience for which Grameenphone has to bear the full responsibility.
